Need a little detox? Is detoxing good or bad for you? Some people find it unnecessary and can be unhealthy. But detoxing can be beneficial for you if done correctly! Detoxing isn’t meant to be long term. A few days at most, but it can be done successfully and in a healthy way! It will help to calm your immune system and clear the gut. Think of this as a rejuvenating spa day for your digestive system. If you do this correctly, you’re not only taking out foods that are irritating to your gut, but you are also flooding your system with a ton of nutrition to begin the healing process!
This recipe below was taken from The Elimination Diet and can be used during Phase 1 which is the detox phase. I’m leading a few people and myself through this challenge, so over the course of the next few days, I will be sharing recipes to follow. The Detox Phase takes 2 days, more if your gut is severely inflamed and needs a few more days to calm down. This sets up our digestive system for success as we move into the elimination portion of the diet. But all foods included in the detox phase have been carefully selected to acheive 3 goals:
- Reduce inflammation in the intestines and immune cells
- Give the digestive tract a rest
- Provide a high amount of plant-based antioxidants
So whether or not you feel that your body needs a little detoxing or needs a jump start to your nutrition after a big holiday weekend, try this detox recipe! I’ll be posting a few more after this for you to try including some delicious soups if you prefer hotter foods 🙂
PINEAPPLE GREEN SMOOTHIE
– 1/2 fresh pineapple, peeled and chopped (about 3 cups)
– 1 small avocado, pitted and peeled
– 1/2 bunch kale
– 1 small handful fresh mint
– 1 large handful fresh cilantro (optional)
– 2-3 cups coconut water or water
Place all the ingredients in a high-powered blender and blend until smooth. Taste and add more pineapple or kale, if desired; blend again. Drink immediately.
Yields about 6 cups
