“Not realizing what you want is a problem of knowledge. Not pursing what you want is a problem of motivation. Not achieving what you want is a problem of persistence.”
– John C Maxwell
Simple question… but maybe not so simple for others. Ask yourself,
“Am I happy?”
Am I happy with my job? Am I happy where I live? Am I happy with my family situation? Is this what I imagined my life to be? Am I happy with myself? Am I happy?
First, you have to take a step back and just be honest with yourself. Is life right now what you imagined it to be? Go back to easier times…. all the way back when you were a kid and didn’t have a care in the world. No responsibilities, opinions of others didn’t matter… if it made you happy, you did it right?? Well, what happened along the way? What changed our minds to make us more self conscious about what we do? It’s ok if you can’t exactly pinpoint what happened along the way, just know that you can change your mindset right now! All new choices, all new mindset this day forward!
In order to change the circumstances around you, you must first change yourself. Do you know yourself? Your weaknesses and your strengths? For me, life was ok! It wasn’t bad… but I knew it could be better! A turning point for me was after I had gotten out of the Army. If you didn’t already know, I did everything right. Graduated high school, went straight to nursing school, graduated and got a job. Then BOOM, I was bored. Looking for more out of life, I joined the army as an army nurse. Wasn’t for me so I got out! But at my last job as an army nurse, I worked on the pediatric oncology floor (kids with cancer), That was probably the toughest job I had ever had! Although it was sad seeing some of the kids not make it, what stood out for me was their will to enjoy life as much as they can up until their last breath! This truly changed my outlook on life and those kids taught me a very valuable lesson I take with me every single day. That is LIFE IS TOO SHORT… ENJOY IT NOW!
Tomorrow is NOT promised!
While I love being a nurse, nursing isn’t what I thought. In my mind, I would have the time to sit with a patient and comfort them when they were confused and scared. I thought I would have the time to educate them and share my nursing expertise so they can feel ready to go home and live healthily ever after. Yes, I sometimes actually do this type of nursing, but most of the time I can’t. People that run the hospital, hospital administrations and such, all they care about is money. Nurses now are rundown, working way too much and getting sick from all the stress of having too many patients and not taking care of themselves. We as nurses deserve better. While it was a hard decision to step away, I knew my heart wasn’t in it anymore. My husband even said I was a mean person haha whenever I came home because I was always so fed up.
Well I knew I couldn’t just sit around and complain until I was 65 years old so I made a change! It definitely helped that I had some side gigs to give me extra income while working my full time job (so if you haven’t look into it, I’m all for it), but this definitely. helped me to pursue something that I have always been passionate about.
So in comes my future role as an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach! I get to still help people, but in my own way! I’m now going to be on the side of prevention rather than treating the disease or problem after it had already happened. I’m super excited for this journey and I can’t wait to fully launch it! But for me… this is MY HAPPY!
It’s hard sometimes to really admit to yourself what you need to change? It always starts with YOU. Once you realize that ultimately it’s all up to you, then you just have to figure out where you want to end up and how. Knowing who you are, will help you to make changes and move forward. Make the changes, learn and grow and then give it your everything! Then you can truly do what you were meant to do and live life by design.
